Philip V. Sunderman

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Sunderman family. Philip V. Sunderman, of Penn Hills, died July 18, 2022; he was 101 years old. Born February 23, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pa. he was the son of Fred and Pearle Sunderman. An Army Air Corp Lieutenant and pilot, he served in WWII. Philip was a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and went onto work as a graphic artist at Alcoa. Philip maintained diverse interests; he was an avid reader, he enjoyed classical music, designing theatrical sets, earth-space sciences, golf, and writing short stories and poetry. Philip was member of the Episcopal Church and a longtime advocate for the Calvary Episcopal Camp. Philip is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jeanne, and three sons, Jeffrey (Volant, PA), Steven (Folsom, CA) and Michael (Atlanta, GA). He was the grandfather of six grandchildren: Christopher (Gaithersburg, MD), Erin (New Castle, PA), Nathan (New Wilmington, PA), Andrew (Atlanta, GA), Eric (Atlanta, GA) and Brian (Folsom, CA); he also had six great-grandchildren. Philip was preceded in death by his siblings Charles, Herman, David, Gertrude and Marie. A private memorial service will be held at a date that is yet to be set; internment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
