Barbara E. Seehausen
October 30, 1928 – September 28, 2020
Barbara E. Seehausen, 91, of Pittsburgh PA passed away on September 28, 2020. She was surrounded by friends and family during her last days and passed away peacefully in her home.
Mrs. Seehausen was born in Berlin, Germany. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Jobst Seehausen. She became a mother with the birth of her daughter, Bettina (Tina), in 1953. The Seehausen family came to America in 1957 and settled in Pittsburgh. Eventually, the whole family became U.S. Citizens, which was a proud day for them all.
Friends and family will remember Mrs. Seehausen as a classy lady who always had her hair, makeup, and nails done and was always dressed impeccably. She loved to travel and has many photo albums full of memories of the trips she and Jobst took together. She also loved music and the theater – she had season tickets to the Pittsburgh Symphony until she was no longer able to attend. Anyone who visited her home would always be treated to the sounds of classical music and jazz that were always playing in the background. She was also very active with the German Club in her local area and enjoyed lunches and events with a large group of people over the years. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing board games and taking as many pictures as possible with her iPhone up until her final days.
Mrs. Seehausen was preceded in death by her husband Jobst in 2006, and her daughter Tina in 2015. She lived alone but was taken care of lovingly by her longtime friend, Tammy Applegarth. She is survived by three grandchildren who loved her and will miss her dearly – Kristin (Dan) Clark, Travis (Kylienne) Shaul, and Stephanie Shaul. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren who will miss their visits with Oma and her funny stories – Kylan Clark, Ashlyn Clark, and Riven Shaul.
The family will arrange for a private service at a future time. Mrs. Seehausen will be interred with her husband and daughter at Forest Lawn Gardens in McMurray, PA.

After Elaine Dively moved away I took over visiting older members of Faith Lutheran (until an illness of my own brought that to an end earlier this year.) I enjoyed talking with Barbara. We talked about her life in Germany and Pittsburgh, her home and her family, and her faith . She indeed was a classy woman and a woman very thankful for the life God had blessed her with. I feel enriched having been in her home and having the opportunity to share Communion and prayer with her.

It was my pleasure and honor to visit Barbara as a lay visitor from Faith Lutheran Church. I would bring the Sacrament of Holy Communion to her as she was unable to attend church services.
She also enjoyed the Dunkin Donuts I brought and she would have coffee ready for me. Sometimes we would talk for most of the afternoon.
She was a strong woman who took her Faith in Christ very seriously. I am so glad she was able to die at home which was always her wish..
Rest In Peace Barbara.
