Barbara Wicks was born in the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, Westchester County, NY on March 19, 1934. She passed away on November 14, 2021. She lived with her family in Thornwood, Westchester County, NY until 1957. She graduated from the Thornwood Public School, the Pleasantville (New York) High school and from Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, NY in 1954, with an Associate Degree as a medical secretary. She worked for a doctor in Pleasantville until her marriage in 1957 to John A. McCreary, also then of Thornwood. Immediately thereafter the couple moved to southern Allegheny County, PA, where their first two children, John and Beth, were born. In 1960 the family moved to Valparaiso, IN where their third child, Laura was born. Barbara spent considerable time volunteering at the Cook’s Corner School, where her children attended the primary grades. In 1972, the family moved again to St. Louis County, MO, where Barbara became a licensed Realtor. She continued in this profession when the family moved back to western Pennsylvania in 1977 and followed it, primarily in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, until she retired in 2000. The couple then moved to an 1870’s farmhouse in Brooke County, WV which they had purchased and rehabilitated, where they lived until 2015, before moving to The Woodlands at St. Barnabas in Valencia, Butler County, PA. Barbara is survived by her husband, John A. McCreary, Sr; three children; John Jr. and his wife Molly; Elizabeth (Beth) and her husband Edward Clark; and Laura, and her husband Steve Partyka, Six grandchildren; Brendan P. McCreary, Erin McCreary Jackson and her husband Andrew, Collin S. McCreary, Mara M. McCreary, Jessica C. McCreary-Partyka and Hayley E. Clark. Memorial services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the McCreary family plot in the Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, Erie County, PA. Memorial donations may be addressed to the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, 5850 Meridian Road, Gibsonia PA 15044.
