Kenneth H. DeShong
March 20, 1945 – March 23, 2021
Kenneth H. DeShong, 76, of Red Lion, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Born March 20, 1945, he was a son of the late Floyd and Esther DeShong. He was the loving husband of Gwen DeShong.
He graduated from Red Lion Area Senior High School in 1963. He retired from Sharrett’s Plating in 2007 and then worked part-time at Weis Markets in the deli.
Kenneth enjoyed watching Penn State football and any sport his grandchildren were involved in; spending time with his family; telling a good joke (or a bad joke); grilling; off color lymerics; listening to 50’s and 60’s music; fishing and hunting; crabbing; and devouring his catch (which was mostly bought after an unsuccessful day of crabbing).
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathy Jo Dittenhafer and husband Dave, and Kristen Sue Hale and husband Kelsey; his step-children, Brad Kessler and wife Tacy, Shane Kessler and wife Denise, and Karen Berkheimer and husband Eric; his grandchildren, Evan Feninez, David and Dylan Dittenhafer, Tanner and Haedyn Hale, Dana and Noah Kessler, Emily and Connor Kessler, and Terra Berkheimer; his sisters, Helen Donagher and Barbara Anderson; his brothers, Bill and Ralph; and a ton of nieces; nephews; and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and George.
No service as he requested; a celebration of life will be held later.
He is most remembered by his grandchildren for his funny jokes and antics, and his famous last saying, “Stop running in the house!”
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
