Rev. Gabriel Richard (“Dick”) Fisher, 86, of Dillsburg, PA went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 24, 2022. He was born on October 18, 1936, in Trenton, NJ to the late Mary Loretta Sanders and Gabriel Joseph Fisher. Dick and his “gang” of friends were well-known for causing trouble on the streets of Trenton and he dropped out of high school at age 16, but when he gave his life to the Lord at the age of 21, the direction of his life changed dramatically. He went back to school and graduated from Trenton Central High School. While working as a painter and meter reader, he literally stumbled across Shadyrest Bible Conference and the Central Jersey Bible Institute, where he was mentored and taught and graduated in 1967.
In 1960, he married Carol Lee Pugh and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2020. Pastor Fisher was ordained in 1968 and along with his wife, Carol Lee Fisher, served faithfully at Laurelton Park Baptist Church (LPBC) in Bricktown, NJ for 41 years. During his time at LPBC, Pastor Fisher preached, taught, counseled, discipled, and loved his congregation. He loved missions and developed LPBC to be a church that supported many missionaries around the world. He was a strong defender of the Christian faith and proclaimed biblical truth from the pulpit, through his writings, and conference workshops. He was a teacher at Central Jersey Bible Institute and was an expert in biblical geography and archaeology. He loved Israel and made 34 trips between 1972-2017 and loved to introduce people to the land of the Bible.
He is survived by one sister: Loretta McGlone, and one brother: Gary Fisher; his three children: Richard R. Fisher of Kansas City, MO; April L. Forster of Dillsburg, PA; and Geren A. Fisher of Mechanicsburg, PA. He was “Papa” to three grandchildren: Jessica Mauchamer, Kyle Forster, and Ella Fisher and one great-grandson, Reid Mauchamer. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2021. Alzheimer’s is called the “long goodbye” and his family certainly experienced this. In his better days, he was fun, playful, loving, funny, and always the life of the party and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Living Faith Bible Church (formerly Laurelton Park Baptist Church), 1595 Hwy 88 and Larsen St, Brick, NJ. The service will begin at 11:00am with a time of visitation, fellowship, and lunch afterwards. The Live-Stream for the Memorial service can be accessed from the church’s web page at www.livingfaithnj.com. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Pastor Fisher’s memory may be given to Family Christian Inspiration Inc. (PO Box 258, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004).
