Dale Eugene Mateer, 62, left to be with God on September 28th at home, surrounded by people he loved. He leaves his wife, Pamela Mateer, and his loving family and friends.

At first glance, Dale may have struck you as a serious man, but those who knew him well will remember him as warm, loving and a major goofball. Dale never let grass grow under his feet. He was most in his element when given the opportunity to bring people together and make things happen. There wasn’t much that made him happier than having a house full of people or a reason to throw a party. A clown, jokester and a practical joker is how many of us will remember him best. Being outdoors made Dale the happiest, and the memories he helped us make will stay with us. When not working towards having the best yard in the neighborhood, he was busy making plans to get away with those he loved. Growing up, Dale enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting with his brothers. In more recent years, Dale and Pam loved taking the dogs and heading to camp. Sitting around a fire, playing monopoly, or manning the grill was where he could be found. The older he got, the more adventurous he became, going on cruises, taking vacations, trying new foods. He would want to be remembered as a lover of life, family and friends. As someone who gave back to his community through volunteering at several local fire companies or New Cumberland river rescue. For being a loving grandpa, or “Pap.” The keeper of the snacks, popcorn maker, movie night host, sneaker of the treats, Patriots fan, and grill master. Most importantly, someone who was always willing to lend a hand. In lieu of flowers, Dale’s family asks that you do something kind for someone today. Donations can also be made to Table Life Church of New Cumberland.

My memories go back to the 70s and 80s at the Nazarene church in New Cumberland. We have great memories of those years. The Mateer family were a real part of those times. Pam, you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. May you feel God's abiding presence in the days to come.
