Andrew Baker Leister
May 1, 1960 – September 10, 2021
Andrew Baker Leister, age 61, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home. Free at last from earthly limitations, Andy is surely in the company of angels, sharing silly stories with a twinkle in his eye.
Born May 1, 1960, in Staten Island, NY, Andy was the son of Jean Leister Weikert and the late Glenn F. Leister. A graduate of Hanover High School Class of 1978, Andy enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and was an avid sports fan who loved trivia, Penn State football, Orioles baseball, Rock ‘n Roll music, volunteering, and being a social butterfly. He also enjoyed working out at Club 2000 and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hanover. Over the years, Andy worked at numerous companies including Hanover House, Aristokraft, Snyder’s of Hanover, Yingling’s Beverage, and Interfaith Village.
Andy faced incredible medical challenges during his life and met them head-on with determination, courage, and a mischievous sense of humor. He was well-loved by his family, friends and all the many people who showed him kindness and care. He inspired all of us, and we feel incredibly blessed to have been part of his life.
Surviving are his mother Jean, step-father Mark Weikert, step-mother Nancy Leister, sisters Kathleen Orewiler (Orrin), Christine Abrams, Heidi Haafke (Ronald), brother Daniel Leister, and step-sister Debra Geer, as well as nephews and nieces David Abrams (Rachel), Kelsey Miller, Erin Haafke, Charlie Abrams, Sierra Miller, Nicholas Haafke, and Sean Miller. He was preceded in death by his father Glenn and infant brother Douglas Bruce Leister. His family would like to express their sincerest heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Cross Keys Village Brethren Home, who provided devoted care and kindness as Andy’s second family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 1 PM at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover PA, with Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman officiating. Interment will be held privately by the family at Rest Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Andy's memory can be made to Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
