Mae Jean Baker

Mae Jean (Ruffo) Baker, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2022. She was born in Landsdale, PA on December 8, 1927, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Theresa (Schembri) Ruffo. Mae Jean has lived her life in the Lansdale and Telford areas of PA. Shortly after High School, she attended Methodist Hospital and graduated as an RN in the nursing field, a rare accomplishment for a woman back then. She worked as a nurse at North Penn hospital and later on in life did private nursing home care. Mae Jean was never one to shy away from trying something new and taking risks. She was a hard worker, always on the move and keeping busy. During her lifetime she worked for her late husband's swimming pool company, Abana, as a bookkeeper and permit obtainer and, at one point, recruited ads for a local newspaper. She was an honorary member of the Lioness Club. She was crafty and artistic with an eye for interior decorating. She was an avid gardener and would create beautiful flower arrangements in the summer time and around the holidays. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and baker. Leading up to the Christmas Holiday she would spend her time baking and creating a variety of gingerbread houses and churches that she would give as gifts and sell locally. She loved to travel . She had the wonderful opportunity to spend a month traveling to Europe and Asia with a good friend. She loved to dance. One of her favorite things to do was to go ballroom dancing. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She hosted all the holiday meals for her family at her beautiful home in Telford. She is survived by three children: daughter Bonita (Baker) Tomassetti, son Patrick Baker, and daughter Kelley (Baker) Garis, along with her nine grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John T. Baker "Reds" and her son Ronald T. Baker and her brothers and sisters: Gus Ruffo, Millie (Ruffo) Farina, Joe Ruffo Jr., Jimmy Ruffo, Chickie (Ruffo) Kramarsic, Mary (Ruffo) Long, Gerald Ruffo and Rosie (Ruffo) Kawalec. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future for family and friends.
