Judith Ann Kohn Andrews, of Audubon, Pennsylvania, was the loving and much beloved mother of Nancy Andrews, Betsy Andrews, Jane Roomberg, and the late Albert John Andrews; sister of Irene Kohn; mother-in-law of Robert Schall, Jeanne Baron, Barry Patterson, and the late Larry Roomberg; and grandmother of Sophie Schall, Kate and Rachel Roomberg, Harper Baron, Christopher and Jack Andrews, and Chelsea Andrews. We are all grieving her loss, but we are also celebrating her long and exquisitely loving life. Our mother was a people person. She collected friends wherever she went, including at Shannondell at Valley Forge, where she lived before her passing with her sister, Irene Kohn, and where she would often say, “I am having the time of my life.”
Judy’s hallmark was her giving and open nature. She was the mother who, as one high school friend described it, “cared for all the lost souls.” Always the “cool mom,” Judy opened her home and welcomed as family her children’s friends and partners, and their families in turn. When her children were young, she was unflustered by teenage behavior. When we were older, she thrilled to our adult accomplishments and never neglected to tell us how proud of us she was. Her kindness was a rarity. She supported her children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors as our biggest fan. She gave her support to community, as well. She was active in Action AIDS and the Alzheimer’s Association. She kept lifelong friendships.
Sweet, beautiful, fun, and funny, she loved vanilla ice cream, especially with peanut butter, Jerry G., "Ripple," laughter, mahjong, movies, patchouli, chunky necklaces, furry dogs, travel, Chinese restaurants, singer-songwriters, activism, socializing, people watching, meeting new people, a good book, a funny story, and more than anything, her family and friends. Everyone she knew and befriended will miss her dearly. But we know we were lucky because she really put the love out there. Sending all the fierce, joyous energy for your trip, Mom.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Journey Health Foundation through Holisticare Hospice, whose amazing professionals helped care for Judy as she transitioned. Among other uses, donations help families in need who have members in hospice with groceries and utility bills. A memorial is planned for June 1, 2025, 2–4:30 pm at Ardmore Music Hall, 23 East Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, PA.
