After graduating from Iowa State University with a PhD in chemistry, Joseph spent his working life as a research chemist for companies in the United States and Europe. He was awarded many patents for his innovative discoveries. When he was not working, he enjoyed visiting with friends and family. His special hobby was cooking.
He is survived by his father, siblings: Josette Bendickson, Jolene Schlegel, Jessica McGruder, Janessa Morrow, Jeana Norrington, and Erin Thorman. He is preceded in death by his mother, his maternal grandparents, Edna and Leonard Werth and his paternal grandparents, Leona and Joseph H. Thorman.
Services will be private at the request of the family.
